Before a ceiling quote, explain the work you want
Choose the ceiling shape you want to discuss, describe the room and existing ceiling, then check lighting, paint and other items in the written quote.
Start with the room and the ceiling condition
Say which area you are in and whether you want a new ceiling, a change to an existing ceiling or a repair. Room and ceiling photos can help, but you can contact us without photos.
The example below is an office design concept from post 74. It helps explain appearance; it does not establish ceiling material, installation details or completed work.
What do you like in the concept?
The office concept shows circular forms beneath the ceiling and lighting around its edge. Say whether you like the shapes, the lighting arrangement or both.
Use the image to explain your preference. It does not establish that the forms are made of gypsum or that this arrangement will suit your room.

What room and ceiling details can you share?
Describe how you use the room and what you would like to change. If you have area or height measurements, share them as information to review; we measure the ceiling and room height before agreeing the work.
Mention whether the room will be in use and what furniture or equipment is there. A photo helps explain the request but does not determine the suitable design or final scope.
- Your area and how you use the room.
- A new ceiling, a change or a repair.
- Available area and height information, if known.
- Photos or a concept link, if available.
How would you describe the existing ceiling?
Mention visible cracks, water marks or parts you want reviewed. Share photos if possible. The condition needs review before the repair or change is agreed.
Ask whether removal of old parts, repair and preparation are included or priced separately. Water-leak treatment is not automatically part of gypsum installation; clarify what needs review and who handles each item.
Are lighting and paint listed in the quote?
Note the lighting positions you want to discuss and any existing lights you want to keep. Ask which openings, light fixtures, connections and installation are included, separate or supplied by you.
Check whether paint and surface preparation are included and which finish or colour is agreed. Lighting shown in a concept does not mean its fixtures or connections are automatically included.
- The agreed ceiling shape and lighting positions.
- Openings, fixtures, connections and installation, as specified.
- Joint and corner preparation and paint, as specified.
- Items supplied or priced separately.
Who prepares the room and protects the furniture?
List the furniture and other items in the room. Agree what should be moved or covered, who handles it and whether part of the room needs to be cleared.
Check what room preparation and cleanup after the work include. Write down the agreed items, especially if the room will be in use during the work.
What exactly does the written quote cover?
Compare quotes for the same shape, specifications and work. Ask what each item includes and excludes before comparing the total.
Price and timing depend on the area, shape, height, lighting and existing ceiling condition. These are reviewed before they are set. The fixed price for the agreed work is written in the contract before work begins.
- Measurements, shape and agreed framework and panels.
- Removal or repair and joint and corner preparation.
- Lighting, paint, supplied items and installation.
- Room preparation, furniture protection and cleanup as agreed.
- Exclusions and additions priced before they are carried out.

Questions before discussing a ceiling quote
What should I send before asking for a ceiling quote?
Say which area you are in and whether you want a new ceiling, a change or a repair. Describe the existing ceiling and the change you want. Photos, a concept link and any known area or height information are helpful when available; you can make first contact without them.
Are paint and light fixtures included in the price?
Check the written quote. Ask whether paint and preparation, fixtures, openings, connections and installation are included, and what is supplied or priced separately.
Does gypsum installation include repair of an old ceiling or a water leak?
Do not assume so. The existing condition needs review, and removal or repair should be listed if included. Water-leak treatment is not automatically included; clarify the required work and who handles it.
Does the concept image prove the ceiling material or how it is installed?
No. It is an office design concept for discussing appearance, not a completed project. Suitable materials and work are discussed for the actual room and the agreed specifications are written in the quote.
